"The spawning period of the freshwater basses is well underway in South County lakes and ponds," writes Guy Dolloff. "These difficult conditions have resulted in a couple of low weeks for local anglers. The pre-spawn was excellent, however, as quite a few largemouth of 3 pounds and larger have been caught since mid-April in our favorite pond. Bass were eagerly hitting Senko baits in 3 to 4 feet of water. Half-ounce spinnerbaits took some very good fish as well. Fishing should improve over the next few weeks as warming waters and developing weed growth and food chain bring on another pre-summer period."
