"My son Peter and I had a banner day with blackfish [yesterday]," writes Brian Skeffington, skipper of Birddog. "After a slow start off Narragansett Beach where we picked up a few keepers, we moved back into the Bay and finally hit a honey hole outside of Wickford between General Rock and Brig Ledge. "After scattering a bit of chum into the running tide, the bulldogs started crunching our green crabs one after the other. We ended up culling five and six pound fish, finally going home with a limit of tautog with each fish around 8 pounds. "Patience and perserverence is apparently the key in early October. Make no mistake, there are clearly plenty of brutes among the little guys in the Bay."
