"Fish are starting to move around," says Kevin Kendrick of Edwards Fishing Tackle in Newport.

Shore fishermen have been catching bass and bluefish from the Cliff Walk and Sachuest Point, he said.

Fishing from a boat, David Henault of Ocean State Tackle caught a keeper beneath the Mount Hope Bridge last night.

BJ Silvia, skipper of the charter boat Flippin Out, caught a 50-, a 40- and some 30-pound bass this week at Block Island.

"Bluefish have been going crazy at Castle Hill and House on the Rock," says Kevin, "but there haven't been any real big blitzes.

"Fluke fishing is holding its own, and there was a big school of scup at Brenton Reef yesterday."

To the west, Pat Abate of River's End Tackle, at the mouth of the Connecticut River, reports:

"We're seeing a few more schoolies along the shoreline this week and in the river. There's even been a few schools on top at Hatchetts Reef. That being said, it's still a bit below normal for mid-September. Larger bass have been scarce around the local reefs with a few exceptions here and there.

'One exception seems to be Fishers Island."

About bluefish, Pat had this to say:

"When the fish gods give you bluefish make the best of it. There's been some great jigging at the Gut, Race, Pigeon Rip and some of the closer reefs such as Southwest. Theres also been mid-day topwater action at Cornfield and Hatchetts reefs.".
