Sharks, billfish, tuna are close

Good news for fuel-conscious big-game anglers:

Matt Hughes, his father Ed, and a group of friends, hooked 11 blue sharks east of Block Island -- just nine miles off Point Judith -- yesterday. They also had a mako in the chum slick, and they spotted a white marlin.

There are small bluefin tuna just south of the Fairway Buoy, says Al Conti of Snug Harbor Marina.

Tuna fishing in the offshore canyons has died, Al says.
