Fluke fishers with the Frances Fleet had a sparkling Independence Day. Frank Blount, skipper of the fleet, reports: "Capt. Don reported a very good morning trip with anglers busy catching fluke throughout. A lot of nice size fish brought to the net today with the largest in the 4-pound range with the shorts also providing plenty of action and a few slammer sea bass to over 3 pounds to boot. "Capt. Mike reported an outstanding day of fishing well within sight of Rhode Island's south shore beaches. Anglers persevered through some really tough tide and drift conditions through the first part of the morning and then by noon as a light southerly breeze developed, the lines straightened right out. The fluke were caught all around the boat and the fish were quite spread out. All terminal tackle was productive and anglers did certainly display a wide array of rigs and techniques to trick the summer flounder today. The hi-lo rigs and the tandem-bait rig were top producers with big jigging motion needed for the tandem bait rig to be effective." |
