Yesterday's catch on the reefs off Charlestown

Big bass have returned to the reefs off South Kingstown and Charlestown, says Steve Travisono of Sea Dog Inshore Charters. They're feeding on menhaden, scup and shad.

On a busman's holiday Wednesday, Steve and fellow charter boat skipper Thad Gruska of Pole Cat went fishing for fun with Ron Mouchon of Breachway Bait & Tackle. They caught limits of bass between 20 and 30 pounds which were filleted and donated to the food pantry in Charlestown. Even larger bass have returned to the reefs off Charlestown and South Kingstown, Steve says.

Large scup are biting in the waters off the Five Cottages and the center wall, Steve says.

Bonito are here, but they're scattered.
