Seekonk surprise

Eddy Sinotte has been catching a lot of striped bass on the Seekonk River lately.

Fishing near the former Apex store this morning, the Pawtucket resident caught a 40-incher.

It wasn't a striper, however. Eddy caught a 16-pound northern pike in the brackish water. He figures that it washed over the dam during the most recent rain storm.

The fish slammed a rainbow-colored Bomber around 6:30 a.m. "It was a good fight," he said, "but I thought it was a striper until I saw its mouth. It looks like an alligator."

Eddy was fishing without a shock leader; his lure was tied to 20-pound-test line.

After landing the fish, he rushed it to Ocean State Tackle where it was weighed and measured. Eddy planned to release the fish back to the river, above the dam, into fresh water.

I think that is just great that someone (Eddy) would go out of their way (not just dropping it back in the brackish water) to release a fish back to it's natural habitat. Good luck and good fishing to him.
