Some reminders about Rhode Island's saltwater-fishing seasons:

Sunday, May 27, is the last day of winter-flounder season.

Thursday. May 31, is the last day of spring tautog season. Tautog fishing will re-open July 1.

Next Friday, June 1, is the first day of scup season.

This morning, Gary Grimmer was catching bass on jigs and pork rind near the end of the Charlestown Breachway.

Last night, there was a strong emergence of cinder worms on Ninigret Pond. Bass were hitting small pink Slug-Gos when they wouldn't touch flies, says Ron Mouchon of Breachway Bait & Tackle.

Fishing on the upper Bay was a challenge this morning, says David Henault of Ocean State Tackle. Charter boat skipper Billy Silvia caught five bass on Mount Hope Bay this morning, but he had to work for them.
