Gary Grimmer and Ernie Hume were catching bass as large as 27 inches this morning near the end of Charlestown Breachway. The tide was ebbing, and Gary was casting a soft-plastic shad. Ernie was throwing a bucktail jig with a pork rind, the same set-up he used to catch much larger bass in the breachway over the weekend. They were catching fish until 8 a.m. today.
Brendan Roden caught a limit of flounder, including a 3.25-pounder on Ninigret Pond over the weekend, said Ron Mouchon of Breachway Bait & Tackle.
The blackfish bite has been fairly good for anglers fishing clamworms at Matunuck, Mouchon said.
