It's 9:15 a.m. and charter boat skipper Billy Silvia is catching big bass near the Brightman Street Bridge on the Taunton River. He spoke by cell phone with David Henault of Ocean State Tackle who relayed the message.
"They're fishing live and chunked pogies," David said, "and they can't get the bait back to the boat without a striper hitting. The fish are thick in there. There's a huge mass of pogies. It's akin to what the Providence River normally is."
Less that an hour ago, Tim Clark of Wickford Rodworks was watching anglers catching bass on topwater lures in Wickford Cove. Earlier this morning, Tim caught a good fish on a Slug-Go in the cove.
Billy Barbour called from the water to say that fluke fishing slowed in the waters from Point Judith to Charlestown yesterday, but Ray Maschiarelli managed to catch a 12-pounder.
