Rhode Island's winter-flounder season is scheduled to open April 28-May 27, but reports from Connecticut, where the season is already open, indicate that water temperatures are still too low for flatfish to be biting. When the season does open in Rhode Island's salt ponds, concentrate on the shllows where the bottom warms quickly, advises Ron Mouchon of Breachway Bait & Tackle. Remember that flounder fishing is prohibited in Narragansett Bay north of the line that runs from Ferry Road in Narragansett to Fort Getty and from Fort Wetherill to Fort Adams. The next saltwater season to open is for tautog, May 1. For the list of seasons and limits visit http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/bnatres/fishwild/mfsizes.htm Last weekend's storm ruined trout fishing in all of the state's rivers and streams, but the bite continues on most ponds, according to several reports from tackle retailers. Also, Noreast.com posted some pictures of Rhode Island trout caught Sunday, at the start of the storm. |
