'Stopped by John Bertsch's workshop in Westerly yesterday to order one of his custom surf rods only to find he had gone fishing.
He called later in the day to say he and his friend had taken their limits of trout through the ice on Meadowbrook Pond in Richmond.. "They must have been feeding before the storm," he speculated.
I plan to return to his shop tomorrow or Friday to select a blank for the surf rod and to interview him for a story about a fly rod he has developed specifically for roll casting. It's not a Spey rod; it's a Rhody Roller.
