"I've been fishing Greenwich Bay for the past month with great success with blue fish," writes Nic Reuter. "In the past week, however, I've seen and caught a lot of stripers from Apponaug Marina down to Goddard Park. Most have been on black topwater poppers on the outgoing tide at dawn or dusk. From the dock I fish, I can see countless stripers waiting for bait on the outgoing tide.

"Not a big live eel fan but I've tried the Berkley Powerbait 10-inch eels, and they have worked quite well for me."

Joe Rovinski writes:

"Fished on Saturday with Dave Bachand aboard the Reef Runner. We passed several schools of both bass and blues along the shore of Napatree in quest of the albies. As we rounded Watch Hill light, the area looked like Meadowbrook Pond on opening day of trout season, and this was at 7 in the morning. Pods of false albacore appeared, and the chase was on.

"Because the schools were so small, they were both tough to get ahead of and even tougher to get to hit. It took over two hours before Dave finally hooked up and landed a fish of probably 6 pounds.Thereafter I managed one albie about 8 pounds and Dave took another fish 7 1/2 lbs. The winds and water kicked up around noon and the schools really dispursed, showing only briefly before we quit.

"The Reef Runner returned to Watch Hill on Tuesday. The albies on showed for only a couple of minutes, but Dave had bass in the 22- to 27-inch range along the beach for over three hours."
