BOSTON, MA (September 27, 2006) - Striperfest 2006, the biggest fishing party of the year, will be held at the Harpoon Brewery on Boston Harbor this Sunday, October 1st. This event is the grand finale to On The Water's Striper Cup fishing tournament, a 20-week contest in which nearly 2,000 participants and 33 fishing clubs from across the Northeast competed for weekly and monthly prizes in shore-fishing, boat-fishing, and youth divisions.

"The contest was an incredible success, and a testament to the world-class striped bass fishing we enjoy in the Northeast," said Chris Megan, Publisher of On The Water. "We awarded over 250 pins for striped bass weighing from 30 up to 60 pounds, and gave away over 50 prizes to weekly and monthly winners!"

Team Dick's, a Martha's Vineyard fishing club assembled this season to compete for The Striper Cup, has led the competition for the substantial silver trophy, which is awarded to the fishing club with the heaviest 10-fish total. With one week remaining in the competition, Team Dick's had amassed a staggering 460-pound total. However, several very big fish were weighed in during the final week of the Tournament, and final results are not being released. Club members will have to wait to learn their fate at the Striperfest this Sunday.

The event will feature the awarding of the Striper Cup, the give-away of an 18-foot Grady-White boat and a Toyota truck, live music, and a variety of events to help celebrate the beloved striped bass.

"The Striper Cup Tournament is a revival of the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie associated the largest fishing tournament ever held on the East Coast, The R.J. Schaefer Tournament, in which tens of thousands of anglers participated from 1947 until the mid-1970s," said Megan.

"Striperfest will celebrate the new tradition of The Striper Cup, in which clubs can compete and be proud of what they have achieved, and individuals can measure their skills against other fishermen from throughout the Northeast."
