Here's a cool e-mail, just received:
"My Name is Joe Trimble and my boat is a 20-foot Mako center console named Julius Seasar. I had an incredible fishing experience I want to tell you about.
"I entered Northeast.com's Big Blue Challenge this past weekend. I launched from Narragansett in the morning, and after fishing all over Newport and Jamestown, called it a day with only 7 small blues, nothing worth entering in the tournament.
"Saturday night, I launched from Quonny at about 5:30. I didn't see many fish on my sonar. Looking across Block Island Sound, I could plainly see the Island, and decided to take a chance over at the Southwest Ledge. I had been told a 23-pound blue had been caught there last week. I was alone, and have never made the trip to Block Island before.
"I made my way to the SW Ledge, and finally goy my act together and found some fish at about 7:00. I started trolling deep-diving plugs in about 30 feet of water. During the next two hours, I landed 6 stripers, all between 34 and 36 inches. I also caught 3 decent size bluefish and had my line snapped 3 times. In the middle of catching all these fish, I was unhooking a big striper when it flipped and pierced the hook right through the pinky finger of my left hand. There was blood everywhere, but I yanked it out and kept fishing. No way was I going home while the fish were biting like this. I could hardly keep the line in the water without hooking up.
"About 9:00, I headed home in pitch darkness, guided only by my GPS. There were no stars or moon, and It was starting to rain. When I got near the Quonny breachway, I couldn't see a thing and came within 10 feet of crashing onto the rocks until a guy fishing there yelled something at me. Close call.
"This was the most amazing fishing experience I have ever had. I caught more keepers in a two-hour period than I did the whole season ( I released them all, by the way).
"I hope you found this story interesting."
Sunday evening, Kenny Murgo wrote about barracuda in Bristol:
"Earlier today I was fishing with a small silver Kastmaster off to the north of Mount Hope Point in Bristol looking for skipjacks (baby blues) and I caught two baby barracuda. I am guessing this is due to the warm water temps."
