Fishing at the Mud Hole over the weekend, Dean Venticinque landed a 780-pound giant bluefin tuna aboard his sportfisherman Twenty Five, says Elisa Conti of Snug Harbor Marina. Another sportfisherman out of Montauk landed a slightly smaller giant, she said.

Closer to home, Steve Washburn found small bluefins about five miles east of Block Island Sunday, says Don Cameron of Captain Don's Bait & Tackle. He was back out there today.

Conti says trollers are catching the small tuna on Hexheds, Green Machines and similar lures. They're biting near the Acid Barge, the Fairway Buoy and the Butterfish Hole, but the fish are too small to keep, she says.

Large tautog are biting off Quonochontaug, according to Cameron. Inside the breachway and pond, fluke are taking small jigs tipped with mummichogs. Fluke are also biting in 38 to 50 feet of water off Charlestown.

Tube-and-worm trollers and fly fishermen are catching stripers in the back of Quonny Pond, but pluggers are striking out.

In freshwater news, Christopher Renzi was catching large bass on shiners on Ponagansett Reservoir in Glocester, says Beverly Mouradjian of Big Bear Supply. Keech Pond produced a 5-pounder over the weekend.

Went fishing on Tuesday the 18th of July... Saw many fish jumping. We were just south of Block Island about 4 miles... Didnt catch any tuna just 3 bluefish. No signs of giants on that day. Late in the day we saw a fish jump that looked like it could've been a white marlin. It came straight out of the water diving for bait. Which it could've been, the water temperature was about 73 degrees where we saw it. Still can't get any tuna to bite. If any anglers have been getting tuna, I would appreciate any tips sent by email...Thanks Alot.

Is the Ponagansett Reservoir private? I have been fishing there for a few months and there never seems to be many people on it.

Thanks.
