Projo Fishing: HotBytes |
Over the last two weeks, Fran Sawicki has taken two fluke over 7-1/2 pounds apiece. One day, he had seven fish in the boat and each of them was over 22 inches long. Fran generally fishes in Point Judith Pond and just outside. "If you put time into it," he says, "you can do well." He's also catching sea bass in the 3-1/2- to 4-pound range. The pond has cleared from last week's rain, and it holds fluke between 18 and 19 inches long. The commercial fluke-fishing season is about to re-open, says Evan Crouse of Wildwood Outfitters, and that could put a damper on recreational fishing. He recommends fluking in 50 to 60 feet of water south of the Harbor of Refuge Center Wall and off Carpenter's Beach. A group of anglers live-lined menhaden on one of South County's reefs over the weekend and caught six bass, five 30-pounders and a 48-pound fish. Tube-and-worm rigs are taking 20-pounders off the Center Wall, he says. |
