Projo Fishing: HotBytes |
Striper fishing has been excellent on the west side of the Charlestown Breachway, says Don Cameron of Captain Don's Bait & Tackle. "It's hook-up after hook-up on that side," Cameron says. "You can't get there by truck anymore, so you have to take a canoe or kayak from the parking lot at the Breachway." The ticket to catching fish there at dawn is a small paddle-tail lure with a dropper. Mike Manta has been catching stripers as large as 32 inches behind C.C. O'Brien’s Pub on the Pawcatuck side of the Pawcatuck River. He's been most successful fishing swimming plugs after sunset, says Cameron. Ray Stachelek of Castafly Charters reports: "There are a fair number of small school bass widely distributed along the entire coastline and Bay. So far, there hasn't been any high concentration in any one area. The outlook looks bright this week and there seems to be a good class of 12-inch fish around. Fish any of the warmer tidal areas, especially the ones with herring runs. Small olive-colored, and yellow and red streamers have taken fish. Spinners can fish a dropper fly with a small bucktail jig." American shad, white perch and striped bass have been feeding on spawning herring in the Seekonk River below the dam to Omega Pond. Remember that it is illegal to catch herring in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Bill Krueger has been catching hundreds of small stripers on the Thames River in Connecticut, fishing with Al Anderson, skipper of the charter boat Prowler. Bill Nolan says fly fishermen are catching a lot of bass on the Narrow River. Flounder fishing was slow over the weekend because of the weather – lousy for panfishing, great for gardeners. The flounder bite should improve with the arrival of bright skies. - Tom Meade |
